ARCHIVED: At IU, why does my Palm OS device fail when I sync against Exchange 2007?
A problem with interactions between Exchange 2007 ActiveSync and Palm OS-based mobile devices may cause calendar synchronization to fail. If you have more than 1,500 items in your IU Exchange calendar, your calendar may fail to sync when you first try to use ActiveSync after your account is moved to the new Exchange 2007 servers. The university is currently working with Microsoft and Palm to resolve this issue.
To work around this issue:
- In Outlook 2007, connected to Exchange 2007, create a new blank
temporary calendar, as follows:
- In the calendar view, from the
Filemenu, selectNewand thenCalendar.... - Choose the location and name to create this new calendar.
- In the calendar view, from the
- To ensure that only your personal calendar is being viewed,
under "My Calendars", check only the box for your personal calendar.
- Move your current calendar to the new blank calendar as follows:
- In your default calendar, select
View, thenCurrent View, and thenAll Appointments. - Hold the
Shiftbutton and select all the calendar appointments. - With all the appointments selected, right-click and select
Move to Folder.... - Select the temporary calendar folder that you created in the steps above.
- Click
OK. Depending on the size of your calendar, the move may take several minutes.
- In your default calendar, select
- When you've moved the items and your original IU Exchange calendar
is empty, perform an Exchange ActiveSync.
- After this sync is successful, move a maximum of 1,000 items
back to your original calendar and perform another sync.
- Repeat the step above by continuing to add a maximum of 1,000 items until you've moved all items back to the original calendar and the Palm device is completely synced.
After you've completed these steps, the Palm device should function as expected, syncing new items as they arrive in your IU Exchange calendar, and syncing new calendar items created on the Palm to your IU Exchange account.
