Instructions for the IU-Notify Text Messaging service
Note: If you do not subscribe to a text messaging package, standard text messaging rates may apply.
Text messaging (used only for emergency or critical notification) is probably the fastest way for Indiana University to reach you in a potential emergency; see About emergency notifications at Indiana University. IU strongly encourages you to log into IU-Notify and sign up to receive text messages. For more, see For IU emergency notifications, how do I update my contact information?
Note: If you lose the original text message or did
not receive a confirmation, send a text message with the word
Subscribe to number 23177. The system will send you a new
confirmation text message with reply instructions.
Everyone who opts to receive text messages (except clients of T-Mobile; see below) will receive a confirmation message within 24 hours. The confirmation message will have the carrier code 23177 in the "From:" box and will read:
IU NOTIFY: You are now confirmed to receive alerts from us. More info text reply "HELP" or "STOP IU" to opt-out.When you receive this message, the sign-up process is complete and you are set up to receive critical notifications via text message from IU. If you receive the confirmation message above and you did not intend to sign up for text messaging, simply follow the instructions in the confirmation message to opt out of the service.
T-Mobile customers
If you are a T-Mobile customer, the process is slightly different. You will receive an opt-in request, rather than a confirmation message, with content similar to:
IU ALERT: You have asked to receive SMS alerts from us. You must reply with "Y IU" to confirm.
If you reply with Y IU , you will receive the following
text message:
If you make a mistake or reply incorrectly, you will see the following text message:
The [KeyCode you entered] was not recognized by our system. For more info www.ntigroup.com/sms or 866-435-7684.You may then try again by replying with the correct KeyCode.
