In ePortfolio, how do I add, change, move, or delete matrix columns or rows?
Note: To complete the procedures in this document, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. To determine your role, follow the directions in Participant roles. To view a list of permissions associated with a given role, see Permissions, roles, and tools. For a basic understanding of roles and permissions, see Permissions and roles: Overview.
You can add, change, or move columns or rows in a portfolio matrix at any time, even after the matrix has been published.
Matrix rows and columns can only be deleted before the matrix has been published.

Adding a column or row
- In the worksite containing the matrix you wish to modify, from the
menubar, click
Matrices.
- On the Manage Matrices page, locate the matrix you wish to
modify, and click
Edit.
- On the Edit Matrix page, click
Edit Properties, and scroll to the "Structure" area.
- To add a column, under "Columns", click
Add Column. To add a row, under "Rows", clickAdd Row.
- Enter a name for the new column/row and, optionally, select a
background color and font color.
- Click
Updateto save your changes and return to the Edit Matrix Properties page.
- Your new column/row definition will appear at the bottom of the
list of columns or rows, and by default it will appear at the far
right (for new columns) or bottom (for new rows) when the matrix is
displayed. To change its position, use the
UpandDownlinks next to its name. ClickingUpmoves the corresponding column one position to the left andDownmoves it one column to the right. TheUpandDownlinks work as expected for rows.
- When you are finished modifying the matrix structure, click
Save Changesto save your work.
Before participants can use the cells in the new column/row, you will need to add guidance and forms, and you may also wish to assign reviewers or evaluators to the cells. Forms, reviewers, and evaluators can be set as defaults for an entire matrix, or can be added or changed for a specific cell. You must add guidance to each cell individually. Changing a column or row
- In the worksite containing the matrix you wish to modify, from the
menubar, click
Matrices.
- On the Manage Matrices page, locate the matrix you wish to modify
and click
Edit.
- On the Edit Matrix page, click
Edit Properties, and then scroll to the "Structure" area.
- To change the name or colors of a column or row, click
Editnext to its name.
- Change the name and/or colors as desired.
- Click
Updateto save your changes and return to the Edit Matrix Properties page.
- When you are finished modifying the matrix, click
Save Changesto save your work.
Moving a column or row
- In the worksite containing the matrix you wish
to modify, from the menubar, click
Matrices.
- On the Manage Matrices page, locate the matrix you wish to
modify, and click
Edit.
- On the Edit Matrix page, click
Edit Properties.
- Scroll to the "Structure" area on the page, and use the
UpandDownlinks next to the column or row name to change its position. ClickingUpmoves the corresponding column one position to the left andDownmoves it one column to the right. TheUpandDownlinks work as expected for rows.
- When you are finished modifying the matrix structure, click
Save Changesto save your work.
Deleting a column or row
Matrix rows and columns can only be deleted before the matrix has been published. As soon as the matrix is published, the option is no longer available.
- In the worksite containing the matrix you wish to modify, from the
menubar, click
Matrices.
- On the Manage Matrices page, locate the matrix you wish to
modify, and click
Edit.
- On the Edit Matrix page, click
Edit Properties.
- Scroll to the "Structure" area on the page, and click
Removenext to the column or row you want to delete.
- You will be asked to confirm your deletion. Click
Continueto confirm and return to the Edit Matrix Properties page.
- Click
Save Changesto save your work and return to the Edit Matrix page. The deleted column or row should no longer be visible.
