While connected to RFS in Windows, why do I get an "access denied" error?
When you log into the Research File System (RFS) from a Windows computer, your ADS credentials are used to create a ticket on the RFS gateway servers. This ticket's lifetime is one week. If your session exceeds this lifetime, you will still be connected to RFS, but will no longer have permission to read or write to your files and directories.
This should happen only if you have a window or file open for more than a week at a time. RFS will force a new login (invisible to those who have ADS credentials already) each time a new connection is made, starting a new AFS ticket for a new full week.
If you do get the "access denied" error message, close all RFS files and windows. You should be able to reconnect within 15 minutes, if not immediately.
The "access denied" error will also appear if you have an ADS account but no RFS account.
