In Symantec Endpoint Protection, how do I run a scan for problems?

To run a scan in Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for potential infections or compromises of your computer:

  • To scan either a single file or folder or a small group of files or folders, navigate to the folder or drive where they are stored, right-click the file or folder you want scanned, and then select Scan for viruses... . To scan multiple files, first select them, and then right-click and select Scan for viruses... .

  • To scan your whole system:

    1. Launch SEP, and click Scan for threats.

    2. You will be presented with a choice:

      • Active Scan: This is a shorter scan that doesn't examine the whole file system or attached drives, but instead limits itself to areas of the operating system where compromises tend to reside, including the c:\Windows\System and ...\System32 folders.
      • Full Scan: This is a much longer scan that covers any drive or folder in My Computer.

Decide which scan you want to run, and then click the link under the corresponding scan to start it.
