ARCHIVED: Why can I no longer log into Big Red after entering "rm -r ~" on the command line?
On Big Red, entering rm -r ~ on the command line
removes your home directory. The ~ (tilde) is a special
symbol for your home directory. Using it with a recursive remove
command (rm -r) will remove all subdirectories and
files.
Home directories are backed up regularly. To access Big Red again,
email help@teragrid.org to have a recent
image of your home directory restored.
