What is Star-P, and where can I find it at IU?
Star-P is a software platform that links high-performance computational resources with Very High Level Languages (VHLLs) such as Matlab and Python. Star-P supports both task and data parallelism.
Star-P is available to Indiana University users on Quarry. To add the keyword for Star-P to your environment, enter:
soft add +StarPTo make this change permanent, add the keyword +StarP to
your ~/.soft file. For more, see On Big Red and Quarry at IU, how can I use SoftEnv to customize my software environment?
To start a Star-P session, you can then enter:
starp -j'-l nodes=1' -p 2This starts Star-P via Matlab on a single node with two processes. You do not need to have the keyword for Matlab in your environment. There will usually be a delay before the session begins.
For more about statistical and mathematical software, email the UITS Stat/Math Center, visit the center's web page, or phone 812-855-4724 (IUB) or 317-278-4740 (IUPUI). The center is located in Bloomington at 410 N. Park Avenue, and is open for consultation by appointment Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
