Using UniCom at IU, how can I make a call that requires an authorization code or uses a voice menu?

At Indiana University, Office Communicator and Live Meeting clients are available to students, faculty, and staff as part of the UniCom service.

View feature demonstrations relevant to this topic.

This document applies only to UniCom with Telephone Integration or UniCom with Outlook Voice Mail; UniCom Basic users can make calls through Office Communicator only to other UniCom users.

If you use Office Communicator to call a long-distance number that requires you to enter an authorization code, or to enter numbers to indicate selections from a voice menu, the way you enter the additional numbers may depend on your mode and preferred calling device:

  • Computer: Begin your call as usual, and when prompted for additional numbers (or when you hear a dial tone if calling long distance), click the Dial pad button
The Dial pad button contains a grid of small squares.
in the Conversation window. Enter a number either by typing or by clicking the numbered buttons.

  • Phone: You must enter authorization codes or selections from a voice menu on the phone.

Note: The option to set the phone as the preferred calling device exists only for UniCom with Telephone Integration; see In Office Communicator, how do I change my preferred calling device?

For more information on making calls in Office Communicator, see Microsoft's Making and Receiving Audio Calls.
