If I migrate to Imail or Umail, will my account be compatible with IU LISTSERV lists?
If you migrate to Imail or Umail from a Cyrus/IU
Webmail account, UITS generally recommends that you re-subscribe to
all LISTSERV mailing lists using your Imail or Umail
address ( username@imail.iu.edu or
username@umail.iu.edu ) to avoid potential
mail delivery problems.
Receiving LISTSERV messages
You should continue to receive all LISTSERV messages in your new Imail
or Umail account as long as you are subscribed to the list from your
official IU email address (e.g.,
username@indiana.edu ,
username@iupui.edu ) and your preferred
address is set to deliver to your Imail or Umail account. See Registering your preferred address.
Sending LISTSERV messages
Current students who migrate to Imail or Umail will experience
difficulties sending to private LISTSERV lists, since the domain of
the new return address will appear as
@imail.iu.edu or
@umail.iu.edu , instead of
@indiana.edu ,
@iupui.edu , etc.
If you are subscribed to any private LISTSERV lists that allow sending
only by subscribed addresses, you will need to re-subscribe as
username@imail.iu.edu or
username@umail.iu.edu before you can send
mail to the list.
List owners determine whether their lists are private or not. If you suspect that your LISTSERV messages are not being delivered, contact the list owner.
Additional Umail options
Umail offers an alternative to re-subscribing to LISTSERV lists: After your Umail account is activated, you can add your official IU email address to your Umail account so you can send messages to private LISTSERV lists to which you are subscribed.
To add your official IU email address (e.g.,
username@indiana.edu ,
username@iupui.edu ) to Umail, follow these
instructions from Google for adding a custom "From" address.
After you have added your address, when you need to send a message to
or reply to a message from a private LISTSERV list, select the
username@campus.edu address from the drop-down list in the
"From:" field before sending your message. Also, select Reply
from the same address the message was sent to.
