ARCHIVED: In UniCom, what is a federated contact, and what organizations is IU federated with?

With UniCom, Indiana University is able to federate with other universities or organizations that use Microsoft Lync/Office Communications Server (OCS). Once a federated user is added as a contact in Lync, you can share presence information, make Lync calls, and conduct video conferences with the person, as you can with IU UniCom users. In your contact list, next to federated users, you will see a small globe icon indicating that the contact is outside of your organization.

Note: In Lync, you can invite anyone with an email address into a conversation in certain circumstances; see Using Lync with UniCom, how do I hold a conference call or online meeting?
