In Oncourse, how do I link an assignment to a portfolio matrix cell?
To link an assignment to a specific matrix cell, you will first need to associate the site in which the assignment resides with the Matrices tool containing the target matrix and cell. See Associating a site with the Matrices tool.
In the site with the assignment:
- From the menubar, choose
AssignmentsorAssignments 2.
- Locate the assignment to be linked, or create and save the
assignment and return to the Assignment List page.
- Under the appropriate assignment title, click
Create/Edit Matrix Links.Note: If
Create/Edit Matrix Linksis not visible, the current site has not yet been associated with the Matrices tool in any portfolio sites. Contact the portfolio site owner to request the association. - From the drop-down menu next to "Site", choose the
portfolio site containing the matrix to which you wish to link the
assignment.
Note: If the portfolio site you are looking for is not listed in the drop-down menu, the current site has not yet been associated with the Matrices tool in that site. Contact the portfolio site owner to request the association.
- All of the matrices in the selected portfolio site will be
displayed. To see the description and guidance for a cell, click the
question mark icon .

- To link the assignment to a cell, check the box in the cell. You
can check multiple cells.
- To link the same assignment to matrix cells in another site,
select the site from the drop-down menu, and check the desired cells.
- When you are finished making links, click
Saveto return to the Assignment List.
When the assignment is opened, information about the links is displayed. In addition, when a student submits the assignment, the student's submission is visible both in the Assignments or Assignments 2 tool and in the matrix cell(s) to which the assignment has been linked.
Note for coordinators: To see a list of the items
linked to a specific cell, edit the matrix containing the cell. Then
