Changes for spring semester 2009

The following enhancements to Oncourse CL became available for use beginning Monday, December 29, 2008. For background information about the Oncourse enhancement and development process, see Oncourse Enhancement and Development Process and Oncourse Enhancements Status.

Spring semester 2009 Gradebook

  • When the Grade Entry Type Non-calculating (e.g. Letter) Grades is selected under Gradebook Setup, the gradebook accepts letter grades as well as text notations of up to eight characters (e.g., A+, A, A-, etc.; pass, fail).

  • Non-calculating (e.g., letter grade) gradebooks no longer perform item and course grade calculations. Therefore, item and category weighting are not available in this gradebook type.

  • Non-calculating items can also be added to percentage and points-based gradebooks.

  • Items entered as percentages or letter grades in the gradebook no longer convert to and from points in the background. What you enter (in the gradebook and gradebook-aware tools) is what you get.

  • Some minor changes were made to the gradebook integration screens for gradebook-aware tools.

Fall 2008 and earlier semester gradebooks

  • Letter grade items, which were previously stored in the Oncourse CL database as point values, were converted to non-calculating items stored as plain text.

  • Percentage grade items, which were previously stored in the Oncourse database as point values, were converted to percent values.

  • In either case, a file with the original gradebook contents was saved and sent to the instructor for each site.

International characters

  • Improved support is available for international characters when editing content because of the change to a Unicode/UTF-8 based code set.

  • Oncourse CL now supports international characters in file names.

Roster and groups

  • Instructors have the ability to view, export, and print all groups/sections and their members on a single page.

  • Instructors can print pictures in a single column.

Homepage

  • The Oncourse CL gateway (welcome) page has a new look.
