At IU, how do I install ERDAS IMAGINE 9.3?

On this page:

Installing the ERDAS IMAGINE 9.3 application

  1. Uninstall any service pack or fix.

  2. Uninstall any previous versions of IMAGINE, before installing IMAGINE 9.3; see In Windows, how do I uninstall programs?

  3. Download ERDAS IMAGINE 9.3 from IUware and save it to your computer. Double-click the downloaded *.exe file to begin installation.

Note: Permission to access this software is given upon purchase of an ERDAS license through UITS; see At IU, how do I purchase software from ERDAS?

  4. In the ERDAS IMAGINE 9.3 window, accept the default destination folder (C:\IUware Online\ERDAS IMAGINE 9.3) and click Install.

  5. When the ERDAS IMAGINE InstallShield Wizard window appears, click Next to continue.

  6. Accept the license agreement, and then click Next.

  7. Accept the default destination folder for installation and click Next.

  8. By default, all available modules will be installed. To avoid wasted disk space, you can choose to deselect unnecessary modules. Click Next, and then click Install.

  9. When installation is complete, check Launch License Manager, and then click Finish. The ERDAS-Net License Admin Tool window will appear. Continue with the appropriate set of instructions below.

Note: If you had a previous version of IMAGINE installed on your machine, you will see a message instructing you to copy the batch and/or the sessionrecovery file from $HOME\.imagine920 to $HOME\.imagine930. Follow the instructions, and then click OK to close the window. If you are using Windows Vista on the ADS domain, the sessionrecovery file is located at C:\Users\username.ADS\.imagine920 .

Connecting to the ERDAS central license service (IU network)

Note: If you are off campus, first connect to the IU VPN.

  1. To open the license manager, from the Start menu, click All Programs, then ERDAS, then ERDAS-Net Licensing, and then License Administration.

  2. In the ERDAS-Net License Admin Tool window, from the Server tab, select Add Remote Server.

  3. In the License Server Information window, in the "License Server" field, type erdas1.uits.indiana.edu . Next to "Port Number:", type 27001 . This is the primary license service that restarts every Sunday morning. Click OK.

  4. To add the backup license service, from the Server tab, select Add Remote Server.

  5. In the License Server Information window, in the "License Server" field, type erdas2.uits.indiana.edu . Next to "Port Number:", type 27001 . This service restarts daily. Click OK.

  6. To test availability of a license service, expand the License Sources folder and select a feature (e.g., ERDAS MosaicPro). The number of licenses available will be 100 or less, depending on the number of people connected to the service. If you do not see anything listed under "Feature Properties", you are not connected to the license service.

  7. Close the ERDAS-Net Licensing window.

Loading a local license for laptop or home computer

  1. To open the license manager, from the Start menu, click All Programs, then ERDAS, then ERDAS-Net Licensing, and then License Administration.

  2. From the ERDAS-Net License Admin Tool window, select System from the top menu, and then select Show SysID.

  3. Copy the local area connection (LAC) ID code or dongle number. If you purchased an ERDAS license from UITS, email this code along with your IU department name to the GIS Support Specialists, with "ERDAS 9.3 license request" in the subject line. Use your IU email address; requests from outside IU will be denied.

System IDs will be different for each computer. The System ID and license file needed for IMAGINE 9.3 are different than IMAGINE 9.2.

  4. Once you receive the license file (.elf) by email, save it to your computer.

  5. To open the ERDAS-Net License Admin Tool, from the Start menu, click All Programs, then ERDAS, ERDAS-Net Licensing, and then License Administration.

  6. From the ERDAS-Net window, select File, and then Load license file.

  7. Click Browse and navigate to the directory where the license file is stored. Select the file, and then click Open. Click OK to confirm the license file pathway.

  8. To test the availability of a license service, expand the License Sources folder and select a feature (e.g., ERDAS MosaicPro). The number of licenses available will be at least one, depending on the number of licenses purchased from UITS. If you do not see anything listed under "Feature Properties", the license service is not running.

  9. Close the ERDAS-Net Licensing window.
