At IU, on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, how do I configure an IMAP connection?

At Indiana University, to configure an IMAP connection on a Windows Mobile 6.1 device:

Note: There may be some differences between devices.

  1. Tap the Start menu, then Programs, then Messaging, and then Setup E-Mail.

  2. Enter your email address. (You may need to click Next.)

  3. Uncheck Try to get e-mail setting automatically from the Internet. Tap Next.

  4. Under your email provider, select Internet e-mail. Tap Next.

  5. Enter your name and the name you want to use for the account. Tap Next.

  6. For the incoming mail server, enter the server name that corresponds to your mail service:

    Imail pod51000.outlook.com
    Umail imap.gmail.com
    Cyrus (Webmail) imap.iu.edu
    Exchange imap.exchange.iu.edu

  7. For the account type, select IMAP4. (You may need to click Next.)

  8. Enter your username. For Cyrus or Exchange, this is your Network ID username. For Imail or Umail, this is your complete email address (e.g.,  joeshmoe@umail.iu.edu ).

  9. Enter your Network ID passphrase (Cyrus or Exchange) or vendor password (Imail or Umail) if it is not already there, and then tap Next.

    Note: If you are having difficulties with Imail or Umail, see Handling Imail or Umail login problems.

  10. For the outgoing mail server, enter the server name that corresponds to your service:

    Imail pod51000.outlook.com
    Umail smtp.gmail.com
    Cyrus (Webmail) mail-relay.iu.edu
    Exchange mail-relay.iu.edu

  11. Check Outgoing server requires authentication.

  12. Select Advanced Server Settings.

  13. Check Require SSL for both incoming and outgoing emails, and then tap Done.

  14. Make sure Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail is checked, and then tap Next.

  15. Specify how often you want to check your email, and then click Finish.

  16. Select Yes to download new messages.
