This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Important:
UITS decommissioned the Identity Finder service on February 28, 2019. Along with its edge partners, UITS has begun exploring alternative services and will start a proof of concept during 2019. For instructions for uninstalling Identity Finder, see ARCHIVED: Manually remove Spirion Identity Finder.

Download

UITS recommends installing Identity Finder Endpoint on university-owned computers. Also, UITS Leveraged Services offers an enterprise service that can provide added protection; for more, consult your IT Pro or computer administrator.

For help with Identity Finder, see its comprehensive help system. Alternatively, see the UITS Leveraged Services Global Identity Finder page, or contact your campus Support Center.

The Identity Finder Endpoint client is available only to IU faculty and staff for use on university-owned computers. Download the appropriate version for your operating system from IUware:

Note:
After installation, versions from IUware will silently upgrade when the newest version is available.

Install

Important:
When you first launch Identity Finder, you will be prompted to set a profile password. You'll need it to access your saved searches in the future, including results you mark as false positives. Be sure to use a password other than your IU passphrase.

Windows

  1. Open the Identity Finder installer.
  2. In the "Welcome to the Identity Finder Setup Wizard" window, click Next.
  3. Read and agree to the license agreement, and then click Next.
  4. In the "Custom Setup" window, if the default settings are acceptable, click Next.
  5. On the "Ready to install" page, click Install.
  6. After the installation is complete, click Finish to exit the Setup Wizard. If you do not want to launch Identity Finder, uncheck Launch Identity Finder.

macOS

  1. Double-click the disk image you downloaded from IUware.
  2. In the window that opens, drag Identity Finder to Applications.
    Note:
For this step, you may need to enter administrator credentials.

Linux Red Hat

Note:
The supported Linux distribution is Red Hat Enterprise 64-bit. For details about the supported versions of Red Hat, see the Product and Platform Support page.
  1. Create a temporary package directory:
      mkdir /tmp/idfinstall

  2. Switch to the directory containing the install files downloaded from IUWare.
  3. Copy the files to your temporary package directory:
      sudo cp IU_Identity_Finder_9.1_REHL5-7.tgz /tmp/idfinstall

  4. Execute the following command to extract the compressed file:
      tar -zxvf IU_Identity_Finder_9.1_REHL5-7.tgz

  5. Execute the following command to install the software:
      sudo ./install.sh

Linux (Non-RedHat)

CentOS is a version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and should pass the check to allow it to be installed. If it passes the check, it is supported. Ubuntu, SuSE, and many other Linux distributions are not supported. Although the UITS Leveraged Services Security Operations team does not support these distributions, Endpoint may work on them. To bypass the system requirement check, run the install.sh script with the -b argument.
