About the AT&T/RIM partnership for Kelley School of Business graduate students, faculty, and professional staff

The Indiana University Kelley School of Business and UITS are partnering with AT&T and Research in Motion (RIM) in a pilot to provide graduate students, faculty, and professional staff with BlackBerry service. Students and faculty will integrate BlackBerry use into teaching and learning to provide students with business mobility experience.

Note: Only graduate students enrolled in residential graduate degree programs, faculty, and professional staff in the Kelley School of Business at the IU Bloomington and IUPUI campuses are eligible for this pilot. Kelley Direct students and support staff are not eligible.

Note: You will need a valid Social Security number to place your order with AT&T. If you are an international student or otherwise do not have a SSN, see As an international graduate student in the Kelley School of Business, how can I participate in the AT&T/RIM BlackBerry pilot program?

To participate in this program, you need to pay a monthly service fee, and if you choose the BlackBerry Bold, you will need to pay for your own device. Discounted prices for equipment are:

  • BlackBerry Bold: $149.99 with activations of the Integrated Plans and a two-year commitment
  • BlackBerry 8320 (Curve): Free with activations of the Integrated Plans and a two-year commitment

Students will receive free BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) accounts; faculty and staff must purchase their own BES accounts. See At IU, how can I obtain and pay for my own BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) Redirector account?

As part of this program, AT&T will offer discounts on the following monthly service plans:

To sign up for the pilot program, follow the link at Kelley BlackBerry Pilot Program. When you reach the AT&T site, if you are asked to log in, hit your browser's Back button and enter the site again; it should load without a login prompt the second time. Select one of the bundled plans listed above. You will need to select each of the following as a separate step, but the total monthly price for the bundled plans will be the price listed above. The pricing will appear to be different at first; discounts will be applied at check-out.

  • A voice plan (one of the three options listed above)
  • The BlackBerry Enterprise Data Plan with unlimited data
  • A text message plan; you must select the plan with the number of text messages corresponding to the voice plan you chose in the table above (e.g., if you choose the GSM Voice 450 National Plan, you must choose 200 text messages in this step)
  • A device (either the Curve or the Bold)

When you place your order from the above site, AT&T will ship your BlackBerry directly to you. You will also receive an email message from IU with instructions for activating your device with your BES account. When you have your BlackBerry:

  1. Activate your device with AT&T according to the instructions that arrived with the device.

Important: Use the automated AT&T phone system to activate your device; do not call AT&T customer service and ask them to activate it manually. The customer service representative will not have access to the specific features of the Kelley plan. If you need assistance, contact Kelley Technical Services.

Note: International graduate students who obtain their devices from a designated retail store will not need to complete this step.

  2. Activate your device with IU's BES using the password in the email message you received; be sure to do so within two weeks of the date you receive the message. For more, see At IU, how do I activate a BlackBerry on the BES?
