ARCHIVED: In Firefox, how do I import or export bookmarks?

On this page:

Importing

In Firefox, you can import favorites from a variety of sources, including another web browser or an HTML document:

  1. In Firefox, from the Bookmarks menu, choose Organize Bookmarks... .

  2. From the Import and Backup drop-down menu (its icon looks like a star), click Import HTML... . This will open the Import Wizard.

  3. Choose to import bookmarks from either another program (i.e., Internet Explorer or Safari) or an HTML file. Click Next or Continue.

  4. If you chose to import bookmarks from another program, the Import Wizard will complete the import.

If you chose to import from an HTML file, browse to the file you wish to import, and then click Open.

Exporting

If you've already assembled a list of favorites, you can also export those to a file, so you can transfer them to another browser or computer:

  1. In Firefox, from the Bookmarks menu, choose Organize Bookmarks... .

  2. From the Import and Backup drop-down menu (its icon looks like a star), click Export HTML... .

  3. In Windows, select Export Favorites, and then click Next. Choose a location to save the HTML file. The default name of the file is bookmarks.htm. Click Save.

In Mac OS X, browse to where you want to save the bookmarks file. By default, its name will be bookmarks.html. To complete the export, click Save.

Your favorites will be saved as a file in the location you chose, where you can copy them, email them, or import them into another web browser.
