What is the BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager?
The BlackBerry Web Desktop Manager is a web-based application that you can use in place of the standard BlackBerry Desktop Manager. UITS enabled this feature when Indiana University upgraded to BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 5; it allows you to access settings available in the standard Desktop Manager without having to install that piece of software. Access it at:
https://blackberry.iu.edu/webdesktop/Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) service will be retired by January 1, 2015; see About the BES retirement. As of January 1, 2013, no new BES accounts are being created. UITS recommends you replace your BlackBerry with a device that is ActiveSync compatible. To learn more about ActiveSync, see What is Exchange ActiveSync?
Note: Use Internet Explorer 7.0 or
later with JavaScript enabled. To use Web Desktop Manager in Internet
Explorer 8, enable Compatibility View. To do this, to the right of the
URL field, click the Compatibility View icon (a ripped piece
of paper). Alternatively, from the Tools menu, click
Compatibility View.
To log in, enter your Network ID. In the "Domain:" field,
enter ADS . Next to "Log in using:", the drop-down
list should by default read Active Directory. If it does not,
change it.
The first time you log in, the browser will prompt you to install an additional ActiveX control. This should happen only once on any given computer. Approve the control, and the Web Desktop Manager will start. If you have set high restrictions on ActiveX content, you may need to add the URL to your Trusted Sites list.
