How do I get started using Turning Technologies in my course?

Hardware

As part of the agreement with Turning Technologies, any Indiana University instructor who will be using the response system is eligible to receive, at no cost, an instructor kit (one receiver and one response card of your choice) so long as student response cards are required for the course. To receive an instructor kit, contact your campus Turning Technologies representative:

IUB Carrie Greenaway  cgreenaway@turningtechnologies.com  330-884-6027
All other campuses A.J. Parker  aparker@turningtechnologies.com  317-938-0901

Please allow two weeks for delivery.

For more information, contact your campus teaching and learning center.

Software

Instructors can download TurningPoint 2008 for PC (version 4.2.1.9232) with Oncourse CL integration from IUware; this version is not available from the Turning Technologies web site, and is the last version of TurningPoint that works with Windows Vista.

Instructors can also choose any of the following from the table below:

Program Platform/Requirements Description
TurningPoint AnyWhere Windows or Mac OS X A simple "floating tool bar" program that can be used alone or with any application
TurningPoint for PC Windows A more robust PowerPoint plug-in
TestingPoint Windows
Requires the ResponseCard XR
For self-paced quizzes

The most recent version of each is available for download from Turning Technologies. However, the most recent PC versions of TurningPoint and TurningPoint Anywhere are not recommended for Vista, which is installed on computers in Student Technology Centers and classrooms on the IUB and IUPUI campuses.

Response options

All three Turning Technology response options can work in the same classroom. Instructors may allow all three or may require (or disallow) a specific option. For more, see At IU, what options exist for student response devices?

When you have decided which options you will use, order the appropriate number of response pads or licenses for your class from your campus bookstore. You will need the following information to place your order:

ResponseCard RF RFC-02
ResponseCard RF LCD RFC-03
ResponseCard XR XRC-01
ResponseWare Web 1-year license RWW-12
ResponseWare Web 4-year license RWW-48

Learning to use the software

Help is available within the software. You can download product guides and manuals at Turning Technologies' support site.

Turning Technologies also provides online tutorials and online training sessions.
