How do I get started using Turning Technologies in my course?

Hardware

As part of the agreement with Turning Technologies, any Indiana University instructor who will be using the response system is eligible to receive, at no cost, an instructor kit, which will contain one receiver, one PresenterCard, and one ResponseCard of your choice, as long as student ResponseCards are required for the course. To receive an instructor kit, complete the Instructor Kit Form, and return it to IU's Turning Technologies representative:

A.J. Parker
aparker@turningtechnologies.com
330-259-7619 (direct)
866-746-3015 ext. 7619 (toll free)
330-884-6065 (fax)

Allow two weeks for delivery.

Instructors may request ResponseCards for course AI/TAs. If AI/TAs will be running polling sessions and need receivers for their sections, specify this in your message. Instructors must keep AI/TA kits for reuse.

For more, contact your campus teaching and learning center.

Software

Instructors can download the versions of the TurningPoint software installed on the computers in Student Technology Centers and classrooms at IUB and IUPUI from IUware; in the Software menu on the left, click Classroom Tools. The following software is available:

Program Platform Description
TurningPoint AnyWhere Windows or Mac OS X A simple "floating tool bar" program that can be used alone or with any application
TurningPoint for PC Windows A more robust PowerPoint plug-in

The most recent version of each software package and the full suite of Turning Technologies software are available for download from Turning Technologies.

Response options

All Turning Technology response options can work in the same classroom. Instructors may allow all of them or may require (or disallow) a specific option. For more, see At IU, what options exist for student response devices?

When you have decided which options you will use, order the appropriate number of ResponseCards or licenses for your class from your campus bookstore. Use the P/N number and/or ISBN number, found in At IU, what options exist for student response devices?

Learning to use the software

Help is available within the software. You can download product guides and manuals at Turning Technologies' support site.

Turning Technologies also provides online tutorials for PC and Mac, as well as online training sessions.
