At IU, how do I buy and register a Turning Technologies device or license?

On this page:

Buying a device

At Indiana University, you can purchase a Turning Technologies student response device (clicker) or a license for the ResponseWare Web application at your campus bookstore or through the Turning Technologies online store; see At IU, what options exist for student response devices? Before you buy, check with all of your instructors about which options are required and/or allowed in your classes.

Notes:

  • You can use the ResponseCard NXT or XR in place of the ResponseCard RF, but not vice versa.
  • For information about ResponseWare Web, see About Turning Technologies ResponseWare Web.
  • You can share a handheld Turning Technologies device with another student during the same semester as long as you are not in the same courses. If you want to share, do not select All Courses when registering the device (see below). You cannot share a ResponseWare license with another student.

After purchase, follow the appropriate steps below for your product.

ResponseCard (physical device)

You need to register your device in any class in which you will use it. If needed, you can modify or delete the device ID after registration.

Registering your device

To register your device:

  1. Log in to Oncourse at: https://oncourse.iu.edu/
  2. Go to the course in which you want to register your device, and from the menubar, click Turning Technologies.

  3. If you have not registered a device, a pop-up window will appear, reminding you to register. Click OK.

  4. Click ResponseCard.

  5. On the back of the device, underneath the barcode, you will see a six-digit numeric or alpha-numeric code. Enter this in the "Device ID" field.

Note: If you bought a used clicker from a bookstore, make sure you have removed the bookstore's label and register the actual device ID instead of the bookstore's barcode number.

  6. Choose whether you want to register the device in Just this Course or All Courses.

Note: If you choose All Courses, you will not be able to share the device with another student, as it will be automatically associated with you in any course. If you choose Just this Course, you will need to manually register the device in each of your other courses.

  7. Click Register.

Changing or deleting a device ID

To change the device ID, under "My Registered Devices", click the device ID, make your change, and then click Update. To delete the device ID, click Delete instead. (You cannot change your Just this Course/All Courses selection.)

ResponseWare Web license

Create a Turning Technologies account, and then see below to register your software license in your classes.

Creating an account

  1. Go to the ResponseWare web site: http://www.rwpoll.com/
  2. Click Manage Account, and then on the login screen, click Create Account.

  3. Review the privacy statement and terms of use, check the box indicating you have done so, and then click Agree to proceed.

  4. Enter the license code you purchased, your email address, and a password for this account.

Note: Do not use your IU Network ID passphrase for your Turning Technologies password.

  5. Enter the text you see in the CAPTCHA box, and click Create Account.

Registering your license

  1. Log into Oncourse at: https://oncourse.iu.edu/
  2. Go to the course in which you want to register your license, and from the menubar, click TurningTechnologies.

  3. If you have not registered a device, a pop-up window will appear, reminding you to register. Click OK.

  4. Click ResponseWare.

  5. Enter the email address and Turning Technologies password you used to create your account in the previous steps.

  6. Click Register. Your ResponseWare license will automatically be registered in all of your courses; you cannot share a license with another student.

Changing or deleting a license registration

To change your license registration, under "My Registered Devices", click the license number, make your change, and then click Update. To delete the license registration, click Delete instead.
