ARCHIVED: About the automatic email account migration from IU Webmail (Cyrus) to Umail

In October and November, 2009, UITS migrated undergraduate student accounts from the IU Webmail (Cyrus) system to the Google-sponsored Umail system.

Note: Student workers who deal with sensitive data in their university employment should talk with their supervisors about how the migration impacts their use of email at IU.

If your account was migrated, you should have received email from UITS (in Webmail) with details about the migration process, and should have received notification (in Umail) when the account migration was finished. You should not have lost access to your email during the migration process.

If your account has been migrated, all new mail should go to your Umail account. To access it directly online, go to:

https://umail.iu.edu/

As a result of the migration to Umail, your account automatically has more functionality and increased storage space, and is integrated with IU's single sign-on in OneStart and Oncourse. Your IU username and email address did not change, but your reply-to address has been changed to something similar to  username@umail.iu.edu . You can keep your new account for life.

Note: You can still create an Imail account using the Account Management Service, even if you have created or been migrated to a Umail account; see "Getting additional student accounts" in Managing your IU student accounts.
