ARCHIVED: In Mac OS X Mail, how do I check my storage space?

In Mac OS X Mail, to check your storage space:

  1. In the Mailbox column on the left side of the main Mail window, select your inbox and press Command-i . Alternatively, Control-click your inbox and select Get Account Info or Get Info. If you don't see the mailbox column on the left, from the View menu, select Show Mailbox List or Show Mailboxes.

  2. At the top of the resulting window, in the menu next to "Account:", make sure the account you want to check is selected. Then, click the Quota Limits or Messages on Server tab.

For servers that support IMAP storage limits, a bar will appear showing how much you have used. For servers that do not provide such support, Mail will still tally how much space the messages are using, giving you an estimate of your usage.

Warning: When mail is deleted from Mac OS X Mail, the messages go to the Trash folder as usual. However, messages deleted from this folder do not go to the Exchange retention area, and they are not recoverable. Additionally, mail that is hard-deleted via Option-Delete skips the Trash folder and also does not go into the retention area.
