Note: The UniCom Group Chat service has been retired.

Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 Group Chat is a client for Windows that enables users to engage in persistent, ongoing text conversations. After a typical instant messaging session ends, its state is lost. However, with Group Chat, the conversation history persists, along with all files, web links, and other associated data, so you have complete, searchable records of each session. It enables a continuing flow of information for groups that need to collaborate while working at different hours and from separate locations.

You can download UniCom Group Chat from IUware.

An administrator must create each UniCom chat room and set permissions for it; to request one, contact your local support provider (LSP).

Note:
To learn the name of your department's IT Pro, consult your supervisor, your departmental website, or IT People. If you still cannot identify your IT Pro, call the UITS Support Center at 812-855-6789 (Bloomington) or 317-274-4357 (Indianapolis).

For more information on using the client, see Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat.

Note: To use the full feature set of UniCom Group Chat, UITS recommends also installing the Office Communicator clients (Windows only); see ARCHIVED: About Microsoft Lync.
