The blind carbon copy (Bcc) option in Pine is useful when you need to send mail to more than one person, but for whatever reason you don't want all of the addresses to be visible or available to all of the recipients. In fact, if you must legitimately send messages to a large number of people, you should use the "Bcc:" line. Addresses on the "Bcc:" line cannot be included in a reply to the original message, which is occasionally a problem with email messages sent to large numbers of people.

The "Bcc:" line is available in Pine only when rich headers are enabled. When you are composing the message and your cursor is in the message headers, to enable rich headers, press Ctrl-r.

Now, in addition to the usual "From:", "To:", and "Subject:" fields, you'll see "Bcc:" and "Fcc:". Enter the addresses or distribution list name in the "Bcc:" field.

This will send your message to all the usernames on the "Bcc:" line, but will not include their addresses in the headers. Only the addresses entered in the "To:" and "Cc:" fields will show up in the headers. Recipients of your message will not know to whom the message was sent. If you do not include any usernames in the "To:" field, Pine will put in the value stored in the "empty-header-message" option. By default, this is "Undisclosed recipients".
