At IU, may I change my Network ID username on UITS computing accounts?

UITS will change Indiana University usernames free of charge only for reasons such as misspellings, marriage, divorce, harassment, if you were previously known by another username at a different institution of higher education and can verify it, or if your assigned username contains profanity. If your name has changed, be sure to first register the change with the Office of the Registrar or Human Resources Management. For contact information, see the following Knowledge Base documents:

You may change your username for any other reason for a $50 charge. If you also have to change the account name on a central web server account, that is a separate $50 charge.

Your new username must meet the following conditions:

  • It must be three to eight characters in length.
  • It must still be based on your last name, except for cases of harassment for which special rules apply.

For the Bloomington, East, Northwest, South Bend, and Fort Wayne campuses, if you would like to change your username, please email:

valid@indiana.edu

For the IUPUI, Southeast, and Kokomo campuses, if you would like to change your username, please email:

actadmin@iupui.edu

When submitting a request for a new username, include three unique usernames, in order of preference. All username changes will be accepted based on the availability of the requested name. Account administrators will contact you regarding the availability of the usernames you requested, and to schedule the change and arrange payment.

Note: If you have both IUB and IUPUI Network IDs, you must contact both campuses to have them changed.

Also, you will need to notify those who send you email of your new username. Mail sent to your old username will only be forwarded for a period of 30 days. After 30 days, no forwarding will be provided from the old username to the new username.
