ARCHIVED: Handle your Imail and Umail accounts as a former student

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Important:
Umail is only for former students who do not have an active status (for example, faculty, staff) and who separated from IU prior to March 11, 2018; see ARCHIVED: About the Umail upgrade. Current students use ARCHIVED: Gmail at IU. If you're unsure about what type of account you have, contact your campus Support Center.
Important:
Imail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Imail account and its associated services (for example, calendar and contact lists).
Important:
Umail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Umail account and its associated services (such as email or Sites).

If you separated from IU before March 11, 2018:

  • You will need your vendor password to access your Imail or Umail account; for details on resetting, see either ARCHIVED: Imail password or ARCHIVED: Umail password. However, self-service password reset isn't available if you're unable to log into your IU account using IU Login. In that case, contact your campus Support Center for assistance.

While Imail and Umail are accessible to former IU students through the IU portal (https://umail.iu.edu/ or https://imail.iu.edu/), UITS recommends using the direct vendor link to get to your account:

    Microsoft (Imail): https://login.microsoftonline.com/

    Google (Umail): https://www.google.com/gmail/

  • When you arrive at the vendor page, use username@imail.iu.edu or username@umail.iu.edu as the username, depending on which service you are accessing. For the password, use the vendor password mentioned above. If you do not know your vendor password and are unable to reset it, contact the UITS Support Center.
  • Your address in the format username@imail.iu.edu or username@umail.iu.edu will still work, but if you want people to continue to reach you at username@campus.edu (e.g., dvader@iupui.edu), your address must be set to deliver to an Imail, Umail, or Alumni Association account. If your username@campus.edu email address is set to any other email provider, mail sent to that address will not be forwarded, and people will only be able to contact you through the full Imail or Umail address.
    Note:
If you intend to change your mail forwarding, you must do so within two semesters following your last semester at IU; see Student computing accounts, data, and software when you leave IU. After that time, you will not be able to set a forward.
