ARCHIVED: With UniCom Enterprise Voice, how can I use voice mail if I choose not to have an IU Exchange account?

At Indiana University, the voice mail service associated with UniCom requires an Exchange mailbox. If you have a preferred email address that is not an IU Exchange mailbox, you have three options for managing your UniCom voice mail:

No voice mail service

Without an Exchange mailbox, people calling your work number will be unable to record voice mail messages. Neither voice mail nor missed call notifications will be delivered to your email address.

Redirect voice mail to your preferred email address

In this case, you must create an IU Exchange account (see ARCHIVED: Exchange accounts at IU). Once the Exchange account is provisioned, you must create an Inbox rule on your Exchange mailbox that redirects all messages to your preferred email address. If you don't create this rule, all messages sent to you from other IU Exchange users will accumulate in your Exchange mailbox. Using this configuration, voice mail messages and missed call notifications will be delivered to your preferred email address.

To create the Inbox rule:

  1. Log into Outlook Web App.

Note: If you see the following error message, your Exchange account is not yet fully provisioned. Wait a little while, and then try again.

The Outlook Web App address https://www.exchange.iu.edu/owa is out of date.

To get the correct address, contact your helpdesk.

  2. At the upper right, click Options, and then select Create an Inbox Rule....
  3. Under "Inbox Rules", click New.... A window will appear with two drop-down menus, one for selecting the messages to which the rule will be applied, the other to choose which actions to apply.
  4. Under "When the message arrives, and:", select [Apply to all messages].
  5. Under "Do the following:", select Redirect the message to....
  6. Under "Message recipients:", next to "To ->", enter your preferred email address. To forward all of your mail to your Cyrus account, enter username@imap.iu.edu. Select OK.
  7. Click More Options....
  8. Click Add Action.
  9. Under "Select one", choose Move, copy, or delete, and then Move the message to folder.... This will open a new window showing your Exchange folders.
  10. Select Junk E-mail, and then click OK.

Note: Moving messages to the Junk E-mail folder will prevent them from accumulating in the mailbox.

  11. Make sure Stop processing more rules is selected.
  12. Click Save.

Retrieve voice mail messages over the phone

With this configuration, you must create an Exchange account (see ARCHIVED: Exchange accounts at IU). Once the Exchange account is provisioned, you must create an Inbox rule on your Exchange mailbox that redirects all messages to your preferred email address, except voice mail and missed call notification messages. Using this configuration, voice mail messages and missed call notifications will not be delivered to your preferred email address. To retrieve voice mail messages using a phone, see ARCHIVED: Access your voice mail in UniCom Enterprise Voice
