At IU, can I install Windows 7 Ultimate on a Linux computer?
The IU/Microsoft Campus Agreement does not allow Windows 7 to be installed on computers with only a Linux operating system. The most common example of this is with Ubuntu Linux, which some manufacturers offer as an operating system choice.
Those affected by this policy need to purchase any retail copy of Windows from a vendor not associated with IU, or speak with the computer manufacturer about obtaining an OEM copy of Windows. The ability to provide an OEM copy is completely dependent on the manufacturer, and it may not always be offered as an option. Once a public retail or OEM copy of Windows is installed, the Windows 7 Ultimate disc purchased through IU should work as intended.
