Turnitin.com's PeerMark tool facilitates student peer review.

Note: At Indiana University, PeerMark is currently only available directly from Turnitin.com, not through Oncourse or Canvas. However, instructors can create peer review assignments directly in Canvas; see What is a peer review Assignment? For more about the integration between Turnitin and Oncourse, see ARCHIVED: Oncourse Turnitin integration: Overview.

PeerMark offers the following features:

  • Selection criteria for forming peer review groups:
    • Facilitates random or customized organization of students into peer review groups
    • Accommodates student selection of peer groups
    • Allows instructors to require that students review their own essays
  • Distribution of papers:
    • Provides instructors with options to choose how many papers are automatically distributed to students to review
    • Allows students who do not submit a paper for review to participate in the review of others' papers
    • Permits anonymous or signed reviews
    • Tracks students' completion of tasks
  • Modes of student response:
    • Accommodates scale or open-ended questions, or a combination of the two
    • Allows students to view all or a set of selected papers
    • Allows students to view all or only selected reviews
