About the Windows 7 Activation Assistant

The Windows 7 Activation Assistant assists in the activation procedure of Windows 7 Ultimate "Upgrade Only" licenses obtained through Indiana University. This tool can be run following the installation of Windows 7 on a PC or a Mac (through Boot Camp).

System requirements

The Activation Assistant is only compatible with unactivated copies of "Upgrade Only" Windows 7. The assistant will not try to activate already activated copies of Windows 7, and is not compatible with other versions of Windows.

Install and use the tool

Download and run the Windows 7 Activation Assistant installer from IUware. The Activation Assistant will open automatically after the installation process.

Note:
The installer on IUware will extract the Windows 7 Activation Assistant to c:\IUware Online by default.

You may receive an error that states, "The activation key does not meet the basic requirements or is not in the correct format, please verify the key with your input." This can occur if the Windows 7 Ultimate version was not selected during installation; the product key that IU provides for Windows requires the installation of the Ultimate version. If you receive this error, do the following:

  1. Click the Start button, right-click Computer, and click Properties.
  2. The "System Properties" window will open. Under "Windows edition", you will see which version of Windows 7 is installed. If any version other than Windows 7 Ultimate is installed, you will need to upgrade to the Ultimate version.
  3. Close the "System Properties" window.
  4. Click the Start button, and type Anytime upgrade into the "Search" box.
  5. From the search results, select Windows Anytime Upgrade.
  6. Select Enter an upgrade key, and then type in your Windows 7 Ultimate product key.
  7. Click the Upgrade button. This upgrade may take 10 minutes or longer; you will receive a notification when the upgrade process is finished.
  8. Click the Start button, right-click Computer, and click Properties.
  9. To activate Windows, click Activate Windows now. Alternatively, you can use the Windows 7 Activation Assistant.
