Adobe Creative Cloud at IU

Overview

Indiana University offers the Creative Cloud suite to eligible users.

For Adobe software available at IU outside of Creative Cloud, such as Adobe Stock, see Individual Adobe software titles available at IU.

Licensing and installation

Eligibility

Under IU's contract with Adobe, Creative Cloud eligibility is limited to currently enrolled students, current faculty, current staff, and certain affiliates.

Note:
To be eligible to use Creative Cloud, students must be admitted to IU and enrolled in or registered for a credit-bearing course. This means that students who are enrolled for a future semester are eligible.

To continue using Adobe products that require a license after you leave IU, you must purchase your own retail license. You will receive an academic discount if you purchase your license before leaving the university.

Limit on concurrent activations

IU's Adobe Creative Cloud license allows two concurrent active instances of Creative Cloud. You can install Creative Cloud on as many computers as you wish, but you can only be logged in on two of them at any given time. If you attempt to log into a third instance, you will receive a warning and an opportunity to deactivate (in other words, log out of) the other instances. For this reason, if you have Creative Cloud installed on more than one computer, UITS recommends that you deactivate Creative Cloud any time you are not actively using it.

Install Creative Cloud software

To access the programs that are part of the Creative Cloud suite, such as Photoshop or Illustrator, you will first need to install the Creative Cloud desktop application:

  1. Navigate to Adobe at IU.
  2. Select Download Creative Cloud.
  3. On the resulting page, under "Creative Cloud", select Open.
  4. In the "Desktop Creative Cloud" tile, choose Download.
  5. The file you'll use to install Creative Cloud will begin downloading. If prompted to save the installation file, choose Save File.
  6. Once the file is downloaded, locate and launch the install file. Wait for the installer to download the entire package and install the application.
    Note:
When installation is complete, the Creative Cloud desktop application should open automatically. If it doesn't, manually open the Creative Cloud desktop application from your desktop.
  7. If prompted to log in, enter your IU username followed by @iu.edu (in other words, username@iu.edu), even if your primary IU email address is different. Then, wait for redirection to enter your IU username and passphrase.

Once you have downloaded the Creative Cloud desktop application, you can start installing software that is part of the Creative Cloud suite. To do this:

  1. Launch the Creative Cloud desktop application (if it is not open already).
  2. Select the Apps tab to preview the list of products available to you.
  3. For each desired product, choose Install. If you choose more than one, they will install in the order that you selected them.

Wait for the applications to install completely. If you are prompted to update any of your applications, select Yes to ensure you have the latest version of the product license.

Access Creative Cloud without installation

To access the Creative Cloud suite without installing any programs on your computer, see Sign into and out of Adobe Creative Cloud or Adobe Acrobat in IUanyWare.

Departmental use

All single-user machines require a named-user installation for all Creative Cloud applications, including Acrobat Pro. On multi-user machines, you can deploy a shared device license, but to remain compliant with the terms of IU's contract, all users accessing the software on those machines must meet the eligibility criteria for Adobe usage described above. For details, see What is Shared Device Licensing.

  • Using UDM/CPE: All single-user machines must use a named-user license installation for Creative Cloud. The named-user license installer for the Creative Cloud Desktop Application plus Acrobat Pro is available via the Windows Device Management (UDM) and Apple Device Management (CPE) services. (For more about central software provisioning, see Get started with Apple device management via Jamf Pro.) Users will then be able to choose additional applications to install. Serialized installers for multi-user machines, including labs, classroom instruction stations, infostations, and so on, are also available via the Global ConfigMgr (UDM) service. Departments may also package Creative Cloud applications for their own UDM site using the Adobe Admin Console; to obtain the necessary permissions, contact Tier 2.
  • Not using UDM/CPE: Installers for managed systems not using UDM or CPE services can be built using the Adobe Admin Console; to obtain the necessary permissions, contact Tier 2. Although the Creative Cloud Packager (CCP) was previously used to build these installers, the CCP cannot be used to create packages that include Creative Cloud 2019 or later applications.
