About Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a method for documenting, planning, and managing future change within an IT organization. Enterprise architects work with business and IT managers to determine the best strategies to support and enable development and change of Indiana University's cyberinfrastructure. The Council of Enterprise Architects (CEA) at Indiana University is comprised of individuals trained in The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) method for enterprise architecture.
For more about EA and enterprise architects, see:
About the OVPIT Council of Enterprise Architects
Goals
The goals for EA in UITS are:
- Cohesion
- Integration
- Innovation
- Resilience
- Agility
- Reusability
- Flexibility
- Cost
- Quality
The most visible evidence of the impact of practicing EA in UITS will manifest itself in improvements to existing metrics, such as cost and quality. Other metrics that the CEA will begin tracking are time to market (production), rate of innovation (percentage of resources spent on innovation vs. operation), and new metrics designed to measure improvements in agility, resilience, reusability, flexibility, and cohesion.
Organization
The Council will be a distinct group under OVPIT reporting to the Deputy CIO, who will serve as chair of the Council. The Architects will also report to their Associate Vice Presidents. This reporting structure is intended to afford the Architects operational objectivity and independence, while at the same time remaining grounded in their understanding of the operations.
Members
For a complete member list, see CEA.
