ARCHIVED: On Libra, how can I access IMSL online help?

Note: UITS will retire Libra in spring 2009. Accounts are available on Quarry, a general-purpose Unix computing environment. For more, see ARCHIVED: About the Libra retirement.

If your workstation supports an X Window System, you can view IMSL documentation on Libra (nodes libra01 and libra02) using Adobe Reader.

If you do not have X Windows support on your SSH connection, you can download the PDF document from the location below on Libra and then view it on your personal computer:

/software/libapps/imsl50/CTT5.0/help/imsl.pdf

To access the online IMSL documentation, first make sure that your DISPLAY environment variable is defined to point to your X-enabled workstation's display. To define the variable, add the appropriate line to your .login file (if you use the C shell), or to your .profile file (if you use the Korn or Bourne shell).

  • If you use the C shell on Libra, enter: source /software/libapps/imsl50/imsl.csh
  • If you use the Korn or Bourne (i.e., bash) shell on Libra, enter: . /software/libapps/imsl50/imsl.sh

The above step will define environment variables required for IMSL. Next, at the system prompt, enter:

acroread /software/libapps/imsl50/CTT5.0/help/imsl.pdf

You will see a list of documents in the Adobe Reader window. Click any document to view it.
