ARCHIVED: What remote network protocols are available from the IU PPP modem pools?

Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) is fully supported by UITS. It is the only means of connecting to all of the modem pools at Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI. PPP is the Internet standard for transporting native protocols over serial lines and is analogous to Ethernet over serial lines.

UITS can support PPP implementations for Windows (95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP), Mac OS, and Mac OS X. The Unix Systems Support Group (USSG) also supports PPP implementations for Linux.

UITS does not support Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP).
