ARCHIVED: When should I expect a delay before changes in my mail forwarding take effect?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Normally, if you create a forward on your Unix account or create a forward rule in Outlook, it takes effect immediately. However, when you change your preferred email address using the Account Management Service (AMS), the change may not take effect until noon the following day. This delay can lead to mail loops. For safety, use the procedure outlined in the Knowledge Base document Forward your IU email

Note: Effective September 16, 2004, changes you make to your preferred email address using the AMS will take effect immediately.
