Recommended antivirus software at IU

Important:
As of June 18, 2016, Symantec no longer provides antivirus updates for its Endpoint Protection product. To help keep your computer protected against viruses if you have Endpoint Protection installed, uninstall it and instead use one of the antivirus applications UITS recommends.

Both Windows and OS X come with built-in security software. For personal computers running Windows 8.x and higher, UITS recommends the Windows Defender antivirus suite, which comes as part of the operating system. For Windows 7, UITS recommends Microsoft Security Essentials, available free of charge from Microsoft. Be sure to have only one antivirus program installed.

For additional protection, third-party antivirus software is also available. Sophos Home protects both Windows and Mac devices against malicious software, inappropriate websites, and viruses. It can protect up to 10 computers per account, and is free for private, non-commercial use.

For IU employees, Windows and Mac versions of Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) are available via IUware.
