About managing administrative access on faculty and staff computers

Best practices for safe computing dictate that you should not log into a computer with an administrator account when performing routine tasks. The easiest way to accomplish this, and maintain compliance with IU policies, is to restrict all administrative access to trained IT staff.

While you should never perform day-to-day activities with an administrator account, as part of your job you may need administrative access to install software, modify network settings, or perform other similar functions. If you need such access:
