The lists below offer recommendations for hardware and software to use dial-up access at Indiana University:
PPP services for Mac OS or Mac OS X
- Any Macintosh computer (68030 or better processor recommended)
- A high-speed modem (at least 28.8Kbps recommended)
- If your modem is external and doesn't use USB, it may require a hardware handshaking cable (usually included with the modem).

PPP services for a Windows computer
- A high-speed modem (at least 28.8Kbps recommended)
- Minimally, you need Windows 95 Version A, using the
built-in Dial-up Networking component. See the Knowledge Base

you also need the Winsock 2 update. See the Knowledge Base document
