Institutional web pages

At Indiana University, institutional web pages, including department websites, faculty and course web pages, and official student organization websites, are hosted on Webserve. For more, see About Sitehost accounts.

Note:

Due to the evolving coronavirus situation, the retirement of Webserve was delayed until April 16 to allow classes that reference sites on Webserve to continue with minimal disruption.

All remaining Webserve sites were disabled beginning April 16, along with login access to webserve.iu.edu. If you have websites that still need to be moved to IU Sitehosting, you should migrate immediately.

The URL for an institutional home page directory is as below, where username is your group's username:

  • IU (university wide): http://www.iu.edu/~username/
  • IUB: http://www.indiana.edu/~username/
  • IUPUI: http://www.iupui.edu/~username/
  • IUN: http://www.iun.edu/~username/
  • IUK: http://www.iuk.edu/~username/
  • IUE: http://www.iue.edu/~username/

In general, the URL for a file in the www directory is as below, where username is your group's username, and filename.html is the name of the file:

  • IU (university wide): http://www.iu.edu/~username/filename.html
  • IUB: http://www.indiana.edu/~username/filename.html
  • IUPUI: http://www.iupui.edu/~username/filename.html
  • IUN: http://www.iun.edu/~username/filename.html
  • IUK: http://www.iuk.edu/~username/filename.html
  • IUE: http://www.iue.edu/~username/filename.html

In order for a UITS institutional web server to bring up your group's page with one of the URLs above, you must have a file in the web page directory named one of the following:

  • home.html
  • home.htm
  • index.html
  • index.htm
  • index.shtml
  • index.php
  • index.php4
  • index.phtml
  • index.cgi

Otherwise, you will need to specify the filename after the last slash.

Individual web pages

At IU, individual pages are stored on Mercury, and viewed at pages.iu.edu. For more, see About pages.iu.edu. If your home page is named home.html, the URL for your home page directory is as follows, where username is your username: 

  http://pages.iu.edu/~username/

In general, the URL for a file in your www directory is as follows, where username is your username, and filename.html is the name of your file:

  http://pages.iu.edu/~username/filename.html
