If a Windows program has stopped responding, use the Task Manager to close it:

  1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, and click Start Task Manager. Alternatively, open the Task Manager directly by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Esc.
  2. The Applications tab will display a list of all running programs. Select the non-responsive program (its status will be "Not Responding"), and click End Task.
  3. A new dialog box will appear. You can click Wait to see if the program will respond, or click End Task to close it.
