At IU, what is a virtual hostname, and how can I get one for my website?

A virtual hostname is a way to create a custom URL for your Webserve account. For example, www.indiana.edu/~account could become account.indiana.edu.

Requesting a virtual hostname

Note:
Virtual hostnames are not available for personal home pages at Indiana University.
  1. Before you may apply for a virtual hostname, you must first create a webserve account; see At IU, who can have an account on Webserve, and how do I get one?
  2. To request a virtual hostname, fill out the Virtual Host Request Form.

For more about the virtual hostname service, see About virtual hostnames on Webserve. For questions about this service, contact Web Services Support.
