ARCHIVED: In Outlook Web App at IU, what are the buttons and icons in the toolbar?
The Outlook Web App (OWA) client should appear similar to normal Outlook. If you use Internet Explorer, the resemblance will be far stronger, and quite a bit of the functionality you expect in normal Outlook will be available as well.
In OWA, you will see the Outlook bar icons as you do in the desktop program. The OWA toolbar is along the top beneath your browser's toolbar, and contains buttons similar to the desktop client. When you click some of the buttons, the screen refreshes. At times it may take longer to refresh, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
From left to right, the icons in the OWA toolbar are as listed below.
Within the Microsoft Outlook Web App

With Internet Explorer
- New (Use the drop-down menu to select a new , , , , or )
- Show/Hide Reading Pane (Use the drop-down menu to select the , , or options)
- Single Line/Multiple Line
- Delete
- Move or Copy to Folder
- Check Messages
- Reply
- Reply to All
- Forward
Immediately below these icons is a search bar. Click the double down-arrow button to search any folder and to access advanced search options.
Just above the icons is the folder name (e.g., Inbox
),
with numbers indicating the total number of items within the folder
and the total number unread (x Items, x Unread).
With a non-Internet Explorer browser
- New Message
- Move
- Delete
- Junk
- Mark as Read
- Mark as Unread
- Check Messages
On the far right side of this bar are icons to navigate within the folder; these icons go to the first, previous, next, and last pages, in that order. The current page number is listed in the bottom right corner just to the left of a matching set of command buttons. The number of items in the folder is not listed.
Above the icons is a search bar with a drop-down menu specifying the area to search (
