ARCHIVED: With my Meridian business set, how can I let another person on campus know I tried to call or respond when someone has called me?

If you have a Meridian business set (M5312 or M5316) or mini console with add-on modules, you can use the Message Waiting feature, which allows you to activate the Message Waiting lamp of other campus users, notifying them that you have tried to call. This feature also permits you to respond if Message Waiting has been activated against your set. Your telephone's Message Waiting lamp also indicates whether there is a voice mail message in your personal voice mail box.

Activating Message Waiting on another set

  1. Lift the handset or press Handsfree.
  2. Dial the on-campus telephone number.
  3. Press Transfer and listen for the special dial tone.
  4. Dial *86.
  5. Listen for the confirmation tone indicating the Message Waiting indicator of the telephone number you dialed is active.

Responding to a pending call request or message

  1. The diamond next to the Message Waiting button is solid. Lift the handset or press Handsfree.
  2. Dial #86 at IUB or *87 at IUPUI.
  3. If a caller activated your Message Waiting indicator, the number of the caller is automatically dialed. If your Message Waiting indicator is active to notify you of a voice mail message, the voice mail system is automatically dialed.

Cancelling a Message Waiting request you initiated

  1. Lift the handset or press Handsfree.
  2. Dial #88 at IUB or *89 at IUPUI and listen for the special recall dial tone.
  3. Dial the on-campus number you previously requested.
  4. Listen for the confirmation tones.
  5. Press RLS button or hang up the handset.
