About Canvas Showcase

On this page:

The Canvas Showcase is a repository of templates, customizable components, and how-to documents that help Indiana University faculty improve the look and feel of their courses. Showcase components are accessible and tested by IU faculty who've taught using Canvas.

Each module of the Showcase is labeled Novice, Intermediate, or Innovator to help you find and use the materials that fit your skill level. For example, Novice users can import and adapt templates, and Innovators can enhance their content with HTML.

To ensure faculty always have the latest version, the Showcase is available via Canvas Commons. You can import the entire Showcase, or just a desired section, into your own site and modify as you see fit. If this is your first time using the Showcase, or if you would like assistance with customizing the content, contact your campus teaching and learning center.

Available modules

  • Assessment and Tools: Course design templates; chart explaining available learning tools at IU
  • Syllabus: Templates you can fill out; tips for screen reader compatibility
  • Homepages: Six sample pages you can modify; graphics you can use
  • Module: Sample weekly modules you can import into your course; tips on using HTML to enhance your course content with tabs, call-out boxes, and more
  • Student Orientation to Canvas and the Course: Plug-and-play "getting started" modules
  • Kaltura Videos: Overview of IU's video tool and how you can use it pedagogically

If you have resources you'd like to share with your IU colleagues, email elearn@iu.edu for information about how to be a guest contributor to the next iteration of the Canvas Showcase.
