ARCHIVED: About international phone numbers and Two-Step Login (Duo) at IU

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Indiana University's Two-Step Login (Duo) currently cannot send phone calls or text messages to phone numbers outside the US and Canada. As a result, call- and text-based options for Two-Step Login (Duo) will not work if your smartphone does not have a US or Canadian phone number.

To use IU's Two-Step Login (Duo) with a smartphone that has a phone number from outside the US and Canada, you must enroll it as a tablet using the Smartphone without using a phone number instructions in Get started with Two-Step Login (Duo) at IU.

Note:
Enrolling your device as a tablet (using the instructions at the link above) is the only option that will work if your smartphone does not have a US or Canadian phone number. The options for enrolling a cell (simple) phone, landline, or Google Voice phone number will not let you enter a phone number from outside the US and Canada; however, the option for enrolling a smartphone (with a phone number) will let you enter a phone number from outside the US and Canada, and as a result can give you the impression that your smartphone is successfully set up to receive calls or texts from Two-Step Login (Duo) when it is not.
