About IU E Training courses in IU Expand

On this page:

At Indiana University, E Training offers online and in-person training, tutorials, and compliance-driven education and awareness. It is available free of charge to IU students, faculty, staff, and affiliates for completion of compliance-specific training. E Training keeps comprehensive records of training completion, enabling learners to certify their training and allowing the university to maintain robust compliance records.

E Training has migrated from its previous platform to IU Expand. If you need records from the legacy system to verify completion of a course, email IU E Training.

Indiana University's IU Expand e-learning service delivers professional development and continuing education coursework to the IU community and the general public. Based on Instructure's Canvas Catalog platform, IU Expand allows you to browse the catalog to find and enroll in non-credit, continuing education credit, and certificate-based courses.

Find courses and enroll

To find and enroll in E Training courses in IU Expand:

  1. Go to IU Expand E Training.
    • Internet Explorer's Compatibility View may cause problems with IU Expand. For best results, either use a different browser (such as Firefox or Chrome), or turn off Compatibility View. To do so, press Alt, click the Tools menu, and choose Compatibility View Settings; then uncheck Display all websites in compatibility mode.
    • Canvas has full support for the last two versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, and limited support for native phone and tablet browsers. See Supported Web Browsers.
  2. In the search box, enter search terms for the relevant course(s), and then find your course(s) in the list of search results.
  3. To see the full description of a course, click its entry in the search results.
  4. To enroll, open the course's description page, and then click ENROLL. You may be redirected to a login portal; if so, click Log-in. If prompted, enter your IU username and passphrase.
  5. Click Enroll in Course.
  6. To access your course immediately:
    1. Click Go to Your Dashboard.
    2. Click In Progress.
    3. Find the appropriate course, and then, below its title, click Begin Course.

Alternatively, to return to the IU Expand course offerings, click Return to Catalog.

Access your courses after enrolling

To access the IU Expand E Training course(s) in which you are enrolled:

  1. Navigate to your IU Expand dashboard using any of the following methods:
    • From the IU Expand login portal, click Log-in. If prompted, enter your IU username and passphrase.
    • From IU Expand E Training:
      • If you already logged in, in the top right corner, click your name, and then, from the drop-down list, click Student Dashboard.

If you are not already logged in, in the top right corner, click Login. You will be redirected to the IU Expand login portal. On this page, click Log-in, and then enter your IU username and passphrase.

  2. On your IU Expand dashboard, click In Progress.
  3. On the "In Progress" page, find the course you want to access, and then, below its title, select one of the following:
    • Begin Course (for courses you have not started)
    • Resume Course (for courses you started but did not complete)
    • Review Course (for courses you have completed)

View your transcript or certificates

Return to your IU Expand dashboard using one of the methods described in step 1 of the previous section, and then:

  • View your transcript: To view a transcript (in PDF format) listing your enrolled, completed, and in-progress courses, the number of credits you have earned, and the number of credits you have available to earn, in the top right, under your name and the IU Expand drop-down menu, click PDF Transcript.
  • View/download certificates: To view or download a certificate you earned for completing a certificate-based course, click Completed, find the appropriate course, and then click View or Download.
If a course you completed does not appear on the "Completed" page, but is listed on the "In Progress" page instead, most likely you did not fulfill all of the course's completion criteria (for example, taking and passing a final quiz).
