Rescore exams in DigitalDesk

Before you begin

DigitalDesk streamlines the review of results from paper Scantron forms for instructors at Indiana University Bloomington. For more, see About DigitalDesk at IU Bloomington.

In DigitalDesk, you can rescore exams either by adding bonus points or by changing individual student responses.

To access DigitalDesk:

  1. Go to Scanning Results: Digital Desk in One.IU, and click Start.
  2. Log into CAS using your IU username and passphrase; this requires Two-Step Login (Duo).

    You'll see the DigitalDesk "Instructor Tools" dashboard, which displays the status of exams processed the current day, as well as messages from the system administrator.

Add bonus points

  1. On your DigitalDesk dashboard, in the top menu bar, click Rescore.
  2. To select an exam from the current semester, click Current semester. Alternatively, to select an exam from a previous semester, click Previous semester or Don't Filter by Semester.
  3. Under "Exam ID", use the drop-down list to select the exam you want to rescore.

    Student responses for the selected exam will be displayed.

  4. Check the Add Bonus Points box, and then, in the text field below that, enter the number of bonus points to assign.
  5. To apply the bonus points to all scores, select All. Alternatively, to assign bonus points to an individual student, click Individual, and then click to select the desired student.
  6. Click Rescore Exams.

    The assigned bonus points will be displayed in the "Bonus" column and applied to the appropriate grades in the "Grade" column.

Change individual student responses

  1. On your DigitalDesk dashboard, in the top menu bar, click Sheet Data.
  2. In the "Sheet Search" section, to select an exam from the current semester, under "Semester", click Current. Alternatively, to select an exam from a previous semester, click Previous or Any.
  3. Under "Exam ID", use the drop-down list to select the exam you want to rescore.

    Student records for the selected exam will be displayed.

  4. Click to select the appropriate student record. The selected student's exam information will be displayed on the right, under "Sheet Responses".
  5. Click to select the response item you want to change.
  6. At the bottom, use the drop-down list to select the desired response, click Update, and then click Save.
