Eligibility

Indiana University departments can take advantage of the IU-Oracle license agreement, provided the department has enough hardware and support resources to maintain an Oracle database, and the Oracle database will not be used for external commerce. The license agreement covers use that directly relates to IU's mission of teaching, research, and service, but explicitly excludes non-academic uses of the product in the medical sciences. UITS groups order their software directly from the UITS Database Administration (DBA) team. To make an Oracle software request, complete the Request form at Enterprise Database Administration.

For non-UITS requests, see Request Oracle License.

Platform and software matrix

Note:
All products are available for Oracle 12c. IU's license agreement with Oracle now includes the partitioning option. The license agreement does not cover the grid computing option known as RAC.

Prices are listed below. Note the following:

  • Prices are for fiscal year 2017-2018 (the IU fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30).
  • A department needs to purchase a minimum of one license in order to receive the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition software and support.
  • A separate license is required for each machine running the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition software in a production environment. A production environment is one that supports the work of the department, without regard to scale.
  • Additional licenses do not need to be purchased for test or development machines.
  • A single production-level Oracle instance spanning multiple machines requires only one license.
  • There are no extra fees for acquiring software upgrades when they become available.
  • Licenses must be renewed each fiscal year.

Acquire Oracle at IU

To acquire Oracle software, the following requirements must be met:

  • Only IU departments can use the software.
  • Departments cannot use the software to generate income from clients external to IU.
  • You may not transfer your right to use this software to anyone.
  • You may not give, loan, sell, rent, or lease this software to anyone.
  • An IU department must own the computer upon which Oracle is installed.
  • The department must dedicate one support person as the Oracle administrator.
  • The designated Oracle administrator must demonstrate proficiency in both Oracle database administration and SQL.

Fill out one request for each computer that will run the Oracle Enterprise Edition Server software. To complete the Request Oracle License form, you will need the computer's serial number, name, and platform.
