ARCHIVED: On my Mac, do I need to remove an older version of Microsoft Office before installing a new one?

Microsoft maintains that you don't need to uninstall previous versions of Office before installing a newer release. However, if you are upgrading to Office 2016 and would like to remove Office 2011 first, see How to completely remove Office for Mac 2011.
