ARCHIVED: Transfer your calendar from Umail to Google at IU

Umail was retired on November 19, 2019. You can no longer access your Umail account and its associated services (such as email or Sites).

Important:

As of August 13, 2018, current IU students can no longer access or transfer Umail calendars. For assistance, contact your campus Support Center.
Former students or alumni who separated from IU before March 11, 2018 may continue to use Umail and all associated Google apps (Drive, calendar, etc.) until further notice.

To transfer a Umail calendar to Google at IU, you'll first export your Umail calendar, and then import it into your Google calendar.

Export your Umail calendar

To export your Umail calendar:

Open a private browsing window.
Go to umail.iu.edu and click Former students: Log in to Umail. Log in with your IU username and passphrase.
Go to https://calendar.google.com/calendar/r/settings/export.
In the "Export" section, click EXPORT. A ZIP file will download to your computer.
Take the individual ICS files out of the ZIP file so you can import them into your Google at IU calendar.
Proceed to import your Umail calendar.

Import your Umail calendar

To import your Umail calendar:

Go to https://google.iu.edu and click Log in to Google at IU.
Go to https://calendar.google.com/calendar/r/settings/export.
In the "Import" section, click Select file from your computer and select the file you exported. The file should end in .ics or .csv.
Choose which calendar to add the imported events to. By default, events will be imported into your primary calendar.
Click Import.

Note:

Repeating events might not be labeled that way if you import them from a .csv file, but they'll be on your calendar as a series of one-time events.
